How to Care for and Raise Phoenix Worms

General Care:
- Keep the Phoenix Worms in the original container they were shipped to you in and keep the lid closed. This will preserve the correct moisture balance and will allow for the longest possible shelf life. Do not refrigerate your phoenix worms.
- No feeding is necessary and will only contaminate the media.
- The media should feel "moist." We ship the phoenix worms to you with the correct amount of moisture, so they should be fine for awhile, depending on the temperature and humidity in your area. Knowing the proper moisture level is something that comes naturally once you're familiar with the worms. The closed cups maintain moisture pretty well, but if the media seems dry or dusty, add 5-6 drops of water.
- Phoenix worms can tolerate high temperatures, but the longest shelf life occurs at 60-70 degrees.
- Large and Medium Phoenix Worms are further along in their life cycle and will darken in preparation for pupation more quickly than smaller sizes. This is normal and the worms are not dead. Actually, calcium levels are highest in darker worms. We recommend that you feed the darker worms to your pets first while they are still moving and active. We do not sell large phoenix worms because they are close to the end of their larval life cycle and they will pupate and become inactive too quickly, resulting in a short shelf life.
Feeding to Your Pets:
- The media that the worms are in can easily be removed by pouring out the worms to be served and allowing them to dry for a few minutes. Any remaining substrate can easily be blown off the worms before serving.
- Serve the phoenix worms in a shallow dry dish. Any moisture in the dish will enable the worms to crawl out of the dish and hide.
